Background
Five Minutes to Midnight was founded in June 2003 as a response to the War in Iraq. Its vision is to create a place for youth to share their views and opinions on human rights and international issues. To this day, Five Minutes to Midnight publishes monthly magazines that explore controversial and under-reported issues, striving to raise awareness of how the world works, and empowering youth to get involved in the global processes that shape society.
Since its inception, Five Minutes to Midnight has grown to become an international project with hundreds of subscribers around the world and volunteers on every continent. Originally focused on writing, Five Minutes to Midnight now works to help organizations and youth in countries like Nepal, Brazil, Pakistan, Australia, Canada, and many others. Its mission is to educate and promote international issues, always doing so without a need for reward or profit.
As an organization, Five Minutes to Midnight tries to promote the issues that its volunteers feel strongly about, and works to challenge those involved. It allows youth to start their own projects by giving support and advice, and also helps them develop their interests by getting them involved in projects that are both challenging and stimulating.
