MDG Campaign

As the world faced the turn of the century in 2000, the United Nations realized that there were still great strides to be taken with respect to human rights and sustainable development, before the UN could say they had held true to their original mandate of 1945. In response to this, the United Nations came up with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), aimed at tackling the problems of poverty, health and sustainable development head-on in all regions of the world. With a target of achieving these goals by 2015, the UN and its member nations have a huge task ahead of them. The following are the exact goals that are to be dealt with:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental stability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development

Articles posted will not solely focus on the third world. Problems are occurring everyday, even in our own backyard, and these are the very problems that we must be kept aware of. Information will be gathered about all nations, in hopes that, in addition to learning something, we will be able to widen the breadth with which we look at the news.

The MDG Campaign will strive to inform young people about development and help them get involved. It will also be working with other organizations and publications to raise awareness and promote involvement.
